Kinesiology is the SCIENCE of movement and the key to restoring
health and well being.
Kinesiology is an alternative therapy and has its roots in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and chiropractic methods.
It incorporates techniques such as acupressure and meridian balancing, gentle structural manipulation, massage and nutrition.
Kinesiology works to balance all systems of the body and can help with any health issue whether it's physical, mental, emotional or spiritual.
Kinesiology assesses the health of a client via a muscle response test. This is a gentle test which detects stresses and imbalances in the four areas of the body's systems:
- CHEMICAL: (e.g. nutrition, hormones, pH balance, metabolism, immune response)
- STRUCTURAL: (e.g. bones, muscles, tissues)
- EMOTIONAL: (e.g. stress, anxiety, fears, phobias, trauma)
- ELECTROMAGNETIC: (e.g. hydration, energy levels, energy fields)
Who can benefit from
Kinesiology is suitable
for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic
conditions. After you have completed a course of Kinesiology treatment for a
specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue with regular
treatments in order to maintain health and well-being.
While many people use Kinesiology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and
counteracting stress, at the same time many doctors, consultants and other
health care professionals recognise Kinesiology as a well established, respected
and effective therapy.
With ever increasing levels of stress, it is important that people take more
responsibility for their own health care needs. Kinesiology helps us to cope on
a physical, mental and emotional level, thereby encouraging us to heal and
maintain health in all areas of our lives.
Kinesiology is a way of testing muscles to reveal their state of health.
It involves direct feedback on the stress patterns and imbalances in the body.
Kinesiology works with the whole body to find out WHY you feel the way you do. It focuses on YOU rather than the illness.
Kinesiology uses a combination of chiropractic techniques, with its
knowledge of how muscles and bones move and Chinese medicine, with it's
understanding of energy. Kinesiology stands apart from any other health
technique, largely due to it's use of muscle testing.
Kinesiology looks at all types of stresses which cause disease in our
body e.g. Structural, Chemical, Emotional and Electrical stress, which must be
equally balanced for us to enjoy optimum health. Health is caused by the correct
balance of nutritious food, oxygen, pure water, exercise, rest, sleep, sunshine
and emotional and electrical balance. When you have ill health at least one of
these factors is out of balance.
Kinesiology does not diagnose but investigates the causes of our health
challenges. It also helps remove problems before they manifest in our body as
Kinesiology is safe to use at any time and has no side effects.
Kinesiology is about improving our general health, our communication
with ourselves and others, thereby improving our quality of life.
Kinesiology was discovered in 1964 by a chiropractor, Dr George
Goodheart, who along with doctors, chiropractors and acupuncturists pooled their
knowledge and added it to Chinese medicine to develop the science of movement,
which helps bring the body back into balance. It is governed by strict research
constraints applied by The International College of Applied Kinesiology.
Registered therapists are required to complete ongoing professional development
and training on an annual basis.
Kinesiology helps with more than 80% of all health problems e.g.
digestive problems, bloating, constipation, food intolerances, headaches,
frequent infections & low energy, skin & weight challenges, hormone related
disorders, sleep problems, learning difficulties, stress, lack of confidence,
traumas, grief, fears & phobias, depression & anxiety, back/hip/neck & shoulder
issues and energy imbalances in the body.
What happens during a session?
fully clothed on a massage table, only taking off your shoes. You are asked to
place a limb in a specific position and to hold it steady while gentle pressure
is exerted for 2/3 seconds and the pressure is then smoothly released. When the
muscle is firing correctly the arm remains stable under pressure and is
considered balanced. When a limb gives way, it is an indication of an energy
disturbance which needs correcting. Imbalance can occur due to a structural
problem, an emotional disturbance, a lack of nutrition, a food sensitivity or
because the energy surrounding the body is unbalanced.
How are imbalances corrected?
Every Kinesiology session is different as it is tailored to the individual
person’s needs. A Kinesiologist discusses your diet, lifestyle, exercise
routine, stress factors, family history and nutritional supplementation. This is
a "holistic" or "whole-person" approach. The number of treatments is dependent on
how long you have had a particular health concern, but the benefits are usually
felt immediately and most people get relief after 3-6 sessions. Every ailment
has a combination of Physical, Mental, Emotional or Chemical energy imbalances
attached to it which can be rectified by many different techniques.
Muscles need efficient feeding as they work which is done by the body’s
lymphatic fluid. If the flow of lymph is inhibited, normal muscle function is
affected. There is 3 times more lymph in our body than blood but it mainly
relies on the movement of muscles to stimulate it's efficient flow. During
corrections, a Kinesiologist massages the lymphatic reflexes that relate to a
particular muscle to strengthen it. Muscles also rely on a good blood supply to
work and various points on the head are held to boost the blood supply to the
area. Kinesiology can also correct jaw, hip, knee, back, shoulder, pelvis, neck,
hamstring and ligament problems. Chronic pain is often caused or exacerbated by
stress and low energy.
The air we breathe in, the
water we drink, the food we ingest, the chemicals and pollutants to which we are
exposed all determine how we function chemically. 50% of problems are caused by
how & what we eat & drink. Good nutrition is a vital factor in our overall
health as foods can either give us energy, have no beneficial effect on us at
all or can take more energy from us. Many of us eat foods based on our personal
preferences. Improperly digested food can be a contributory cause of food
sensitivities or allergies. 70% of the body’s immune system is located within
the gut so the importance of its state of health cannot be overestimated.
Food Testing discovers the
hidden detrimental effects of foods to which we are sensitive. Kinesiology gets
feedback from your body about the foods which suit you or those you need to
avoid. We are emotionally attached to our food and tools are shown to help deal
with withdrawing from favourite foods. Kinesiology also helps analyse what
vitamin, mineral or herbal supplements are necessary for your speedy recovery.
In Kinesiology, we also test for chemical imbalances e.g. toxins, viruses,
bacteria, fungus, parasites and hormonal imbalances. Symptoms involving PMS &
Menopausal problems, Headaches, Digestive Problems, Allergies & Addictions are a
few of the health issues dealt with through addressing chemical health.
Everyone experiences emotional stress at some time in life.
The thoughts we think affect everything that happens to us. We can make
ourselves sick or well with our mental approach and it can greatly affect any
muscle’s ability to perform. “How We Think Is How We Are.”
In Kinesiology, we work
with the mind to identify when and where emotions come from and release them to
restore emotional balance. You can be aided to deal with depression, stress,
sleep problems, grief, past traumas, fears/phobias, learning difficulties,
giving up smoking, losing weight or working on self-confidence issues which are
holding you back from progressing in your life. People report they feel happier,
lighter and more positive after having a session of Kinesiology.
All body movements are
controlled by complex electrical circuits which become easily upset and blocked
in a stressed person. There are 12 meridian lines linked with the organs and
each has a different type of energy. The ability to centre ourselves during
stress can be affected in everyone and this reduces our energy levels and
inhibits the body’s innate ability to recover and heal. Disease occurs when
there is a state of energy depletion and can be eliminated by readjusting this
energy imbalance. We look at where the body is out of tune and correct it.
Kinesiology can address many of the body’s electrical imbalances calling on
tools from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
In Neuroenergetic Kinesiology we use what are called 'finger
modes'. One mode we use is called 'priority mode'. By using this
mode at the beginning of a session, it allows only that which is priority to
work on with each client to come to the surface during a session. In
short, Kinesiology works where the body needs it most, in a way that is most
effective for each client.
We don’t suddenly get ill – most acute
problems are the result of years of unresolved chronic problems. Kinesiology
helps you take back control of your health by balancing your body to strengthen
it from the impact of disease. Disease cannot thrive in a healthy body. This is
true preventive health care..
Kinesiology can be of real benefit with a range of different diseases like:
